Bob Marley 跟他的乐团 - the Wailers，是Reggae音乐的鼻祖。 随着电影 「The Harder They Come」 (1973) ， Reggae成功的流传到美国， 逐渐影响了白人乐手，在摇滚乐及饶舌音乐中经常可以发现雷鬼音乐的踪迹。 在Bob Marley死后，Reggae 音乐渐渐没落。 直到80, 90年代， 一种融合了饶舌音乐及雷鬼音乐的新型态出现， 这种叫做dub 或是toasting 的新音乐型态为雷鬼音乐注入了新的生命。 Bob 的儿子 - Ziggy Marley，也是这段时间雷盖乐界的代表人物。
