1952年5月18日，George Strait出生在美國Texas州的Pearsall。20歲時，George Strait與Norma步入了婚姻的殿堂。在夏威夷，George Strait進入軍隊服役。在軍隊中，George Strait開始和一支名叫Rambling Country的樂隊一起為自己的戰友們演出。1975年，George Strait離開了軍隊，他回到Texas，決定完成自己的學業。George Strait在西南德馑薩斯州立大學拿到了自己的農業學位，在此學習期間，他還創建了自己的鄉村樂隊Ace in the Hole。Ace in the Hole樂隊出版過幾張唱片，但沒有什麼反響。之後，George嘗試個人發展。1979年，George Strait認識了以前曾在MCA唱片公司工作過的Erv Woolsey。 Woolsey讓MCA唱片公司的一些管理人員來德馑薩斯聽了George Strait的演唱，他的出色表現使自己成功簽約。

1981年春，George Strait的首支單曲《Unwound》正式發行並一舉進入排行榜前十。之後的《If You're Thinking You Want a Stranger (There's One Coming Home)》在82年成為排行榜第三的單曲。而從82年的《Fool Hearted Memory》算起，George Strait一共擁有了31首排行榜的冠軍單曲。1992年，George Strait出演了自己的第一部電影《Pure Country》，片中George擔任主演。1995年，George Strait推出了一張4碟的合輯，以回顧自己音樂生涯
